The Next Big Thing : Virtual Reality & Mixed Reality

Hello, Welcome to CSTechFans & today we will be telling you about the next big thing. Times have changed since the invention of computer’s, mobiles, OS’s, Facebook, etc. But, now as we look into the future of computing, the big thing that everyone is looking at very desperately is “Virtual Reality (VR) & Mixed Reality (MR)“. So today at Computer Science Technology Fans we will explain you this trends. Stay Tuned.

Virtual Reality

The computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional image or environment that can be interacted with in a seemingly real or physical way by a person using special electronic equipment, such as a helmet with a screen inside or gloves fitted with sensors. — Wikipedia

The virtual reality creates an virtual image of almost anything infront of our eyes. We get transformed into a complete different environment.Virtual reality has the power to teleport yourself just anywhere in the world. Yes it’s absolutely true. With the help of VR you can imagine any world, play any video in 360°, or play games with/without use of any other physical devices. And the best thing is that you can be in the game instead of just playing it. That’s what is the crazy thing about VR.

Now a days VR Headsets have become very common but, still far from consumer mainstream adobtion. There are many mobile OEM’s who now have there self made VR Headsets like Google DayDream, Samsung Gear VR, Oculus Rift, HTC vive. And Techgaints like Apple & Microsoft also investing heavily in VR. We already now have VR functionality in the Windows 10 Creaters Update (1703) & many Windows OEM’s now have there own headsets like Dell, Lenovo, Acer, Samsung, etc. So, we have an heavyweight competiton for the race of VR. BUT, wait there’s an upgrade to VR, it’s the Mixed Reality and (or) Argumented Reality.

Mixed Reality

Mixed reality (MR) : referred to as hybrid reality, it is the merging of real and virtual worlds to produce new environments and visualisations where physical and digital objects co-exist and interact in real time. — Wikipedia

Mixed Reality not only creates but it changes our surrounding environment to produce a new one. In VR, physical objects just don’t exists. But, Mixed Reality (MR) is definately the more featured one. MR is very powerful. One can even run various computing applications on it such as Skype, OneDrive, Office, Games, Edge, etc.

The very first company to showcase Mixed Reality is “Microsoft“. It’s product named “Hololens” (2015) still one of the best Innovations of the decade. And is still in development. It would take atleast more 2-3 years for its development & consumer ready varients.

Hardware associated with mixed reality includes Microsoft’s HoloLens, which is set to be big in MR—although Microsoft have dodged the AR/MR debate by introducing yet another term: “holographic computing”. Microsoft has just announced a HoloLens emulator for developers so you can make applications for the new tech. — Foundry.
